 How to Bid

Our Premier Fine Art & Antiques Auction is held every first or second Saturday of the month. Auction sessions usually feature a special focus such as “Northwest Art & Modern” and “Asian Collection.” Premier Auction catalogs are also hosted on Invaluable.com and Ebay.com, where bidders from all over the world can participate in live bidding during auction sessions. Auctions are free to the public, and you are under no obligation to bid. Watching is just fine and makes a wonderful learning opportunity!

Save the Date!

Preview the Auction

Preview is held Friday before the auction and the two hours before the auction starts. All items are sold as-is, where is! Take time to check the condition, dimensions, and any details concerning the item BEFORE you bid. Our catalog is available online one to two weeks in advance and a print version is available for purchase starting with Preview. Our specialists will do their best to answer any questions.

Remember that except under certain circumstances, all auction sales are final, and the principle of caveat emptor (let the buyer beware) applies; the burden is on the bidder to ensure for themselves that the item is something they want to buy. Investigate shipping options! Be an informed bidder!

Register

If you decide you want to bid on an item you must register to bid. You can register any time, including during the auction, but be sure to leave ample time before your item comes up! You will need to bring a driver’s license for I.D. and a valid credit card for registration. Review our Registration Agreement and Terms of Sale.

Pacific Galleries recommends attending the auction in person for the best bidding experience. Our Silent Auction items are available only to in person bidders! Absentee, phone and live online bidding are also available. Sale is to the highest bidder. Lots are passed by the auctioneer when there is no interest, a reserve not met, or an issue with the item. All items are subject to a 25% buyer’s premium (+5% for online bidders).

Absentee Bidding

If you cannot make it to the auction, you can leave an absentee bid. The auctioneer will bid on your behalf up to your indicated amount. You can place absentee bids during preview, contact us, or fill out our Absentee Bidding Form. Absentee bids do not have to follow normal bid increments.

Online Bidding

Bid live online from the comfort of home by registering to bid through our partner Invaluable.com. Whether you are local, domestic, or international, you can participate live online with video and sound during the auction through our partnership with Invaluable.com and their partner sites AuctionZip.com and eBay.com. Absentee bidding is also available. Online bidding is subject to an additional 5% buyer’s premium (30% total).

Please note, Pacific Galleries is unable to provide technical troubleshooting for online services. Please reference the site’s help page or contact customer service. Pacific Galleries can only assist with the status of your registration. Pacific Galleries is not responsible for technical issues involved, including connection quality and lag.

Phone Bidding

Contact us prior to the auction to register to bid by telephone. To qualify, you must open the bidding on each lot at $500 or more. Our staff will record your contact information and the lots you wish to bid on and call you a few lots before your item opens.

Payment & Pickup

We ask that payment and pickup is completed within one week of the end of the auction. We are open the Monday following the auction for payment and pickup (normal pickup hours Tues-Fri 9am-5pm). Your invoice will include the Hammer Price (the amount the auctioneer sold you the item for) for each lot, the total buyer’s premium (25% + 5% for online bidders), and shipping/tax as required.

Payment can be made by cash, check, major credit cards, wire-transfer, or Paypal payment to pacificgalleries@pacgal.com.

Please note that for international transactions of $2,500 or more, Pacific Galleries requires payment by wire-transfer or credit card (not Paypal).

Unpaid invoices will be cancelled after approximately 12 business days, and unpaid bidders may be banned and receive negative feedback. Paid items not picked up within a week of the auction may incur a storage fee. Please pay and pick up in a timely manner!

Shipping

Pacific Galleries offers in-house shipping for smaller items and artwork. If you are out of state, we will include shipping information with your invoice: either a shipping quote for our in-house shipping, or contact information for local third-party shippers who can handle your large, fragile, or large quantity of items. THE COST OF SHIPPING IS NOT GROUNDS FOR CANCELLING A SALE. All shipping is at the cost and risk of the buyer. Please visit our Shipping page for more information.

Disputes

Please refer to the Registration Agreement and Terms of Sale for return and dispute guidelines or contact us.

Passed Items

Contact us if you are interested in a recent item that shows as “unsold.” It may still be available for sale. Lots are passed if there is not enough interest, a reserve was not met, or there was an issue with its auction status.
